Hard to believe it was this time last year we were celebrating Mother’s day in anticipation of our daughter Sofia’s birth in August. Eight months later I’m celebrating my first Mother’s day with her!
The planner and interior designer in me immediately began thumbing through all my nursery inspiration boards. While I like pink, I knew I didn’t want your typical all pink girl’s nursery. I came across this beautiful Cherry Blossom painting, which reminded me of my days in DC, and knew right away it was the perfect piece to design Sofia Wimberley’s nursery around. The painting has blues, pinks, and greens, which gave me a fun color palate to choose from.
Another important design element is to use colors, furniture, and accessories that will grow with your child. Such as a dresser that fits the decor and serves as storage and an alternative changing table. I finally found the perfect antique style dresser for Sofia at Old World New Home, that she’ll be able to use all through her childhood.
I added the finishing touches to the room by doing DIY projects for the fabric letters and wallpaper backing on the bookshelf. Please see previous posts for How-To’s.
Remember you can simply add accents to your child’s room as they grow. Now that Sofia is 8 months we have added additional accents such as photos and imprints of her foot and hand. I have received such wonderful feedback that I will have another blog post on her updated nursery soon.
