It’s that time of year again for One Room Challenge (ORC), hosted by Linda from Calling it Home!
Hard to believe we’ve been enjoying our coastal living room refresh and updated front entryway for six months already!
Last week we shared the exciting news that we’re partnering with Trove Market on our 5th ORC, Family Room Refresh! We’ve been slowly updating the main room in our home, the family room, which is the largest and also the most expensive to update.
First, let me share what’s inspiring me for this family room refresh. I love the open, bright, and family friendly feel of this room via House Beautiful! I’ve been using this as inspiration for over a year and keep coming back to it. Just like our family room it has a fireplace flanked with two built in shelves and a wall of windows and doors.
If you’ve been following along our home design adventures, you know our home has a coastal feel with lots of blue and white woven through out. I also have a major coral crush, which is why I’ve been crushing on this living room for over year via House of Turquoise!
Again, the open room, fireplace with a steep hearth, built in shelves, and a wall of windows and doors is similar to our family. I’ve been playing around with the idea of adding a sectional similar to the one shown here as great for additional seating and the color is neutral, which also allows you to use color in the accessories.
Now that you know what’s inspiring me, let’s talk about our family room, which we have been updating slowly since we moved in to our home three years ago. The first year we painted the built in shelves, took down the 1970’s vertical blinds, bought new curtains to hang against the window/door wall of the room, and added a large area rug.
The second year we rearranged the furniture to make the room more open, added much need decorative baskets to contain the over flow of toys, removed the kids play kitchen and placed it one of our daughter’s bedrooms, and got rid of our broken wood finished coffee table.
This year I’m ready to tackle the big purchase items to really finish the room!
First on the list is either reupholstering the Crate and Barrel sofa bed or buying a sectional. I’ve had this sofa for 16 years, lots of cities and moves! However, the pillows have been loved by our dog and the fabric is worn and tearing. I love this tufted velvet blue sofa from my inspiration board and mixing in different blue and white fabrics for the toss pillows.
We love having a fireplace with these built in shelves! However, the fireplace has a high hearth and no mantle, which makes it difficult for designing the room. A piece of reclaimed wood as the mantel has been on my wish list ever since we bought this house 3 years ago and is one of the items I’m custom designing with Bear Wood Company via Trove Market!
We have a lot of handy me down pieces in this room such as these two arm chairs, which have been great, especially with young children. However, the pieces are outdated and loved, and don’t match our current décor and style. The dark wood tray coffee table finally broke and we’ve enjoyed having more room for the kids to play. However, we miss having a functional coffee table to put our drinks down. I’ve been eyeing brass coffee tables for the last year that better suite our style and function of the room for our family.
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be partnering with New South Home again, which will be providing the designer fabric for my re-upholstered furniture pieces and toss pillows!
I’m also excited to announce that I have partnered with Christenbery Collection (Meredith Christenberry), which has curated three commissioned pieces of art by artist Shield Catone for our family room!
We announced last week our collaboration with Trove Market and you can get details on our partnership and the Thrill of The Hunt here.
