Hop into the spring season with Festive DIY Easter Decor!
I just gifted one of my best friends the materials and tools needed to make Some Bunny Loves You wood sign for her birthday! It’s an out of the box gift for a creative, which is perfect as we grow older and don’t need a bunch of things but rather experiences. Often times we find ourselves enjoying the process and relaxing when we are creating.
Today, I’m going to give you step by step tutorial so you can make this Festive DIY Easter Decor too! Grab a friend or your kids, and let’s get started on this easy DIY project!
Materials You’ll Need
- Wood or fabric canvas (approx. 10×10)
- Sunday Nap or Southern Gentlemen Rescue Restore Paint
- Happy Easter Bunny stencil or Hippity Hoppity stencil
- Alphabet stencil
- Peace and Joy ChalkArt™
- Be Mine ChalkArt™
- Foam brush
- Spreader
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun
First use the foam brush to paint entire wood or canvas surface using Sunday Nap or Southern Gentlemen Rescue Restore Paint. Allow it to dry and apply a second coat if needed, making sure you get all the sides. You can choose to add Be Mine (pink) ChalkArt to the sides instead of the grey if you’d like a different look. Use hairdryer to speed up drying process.
Next remove your Bunny stencil from packaging. Cut bunny section out of stencil. Slowly take backing off so mesh stencil doesn’t tear.
Place Bunny stencil onto the center of your surface.
Open Be Mine ChalkArt Paint (pink) and add a dollop to spreader or paint pallet/card board. (Close lid to ChalkArt paint so it doesn’t dry out).
Using the spreader or foam brush, apply Be Mine ChalkArt paint lightly to your Bunny stencil. while holding the stencil with your other hand just in case it moves. ChalkArt paint is very thick, so you don’t need a lot, plus if you have too much your stencil will bleed. You can always add another dollop if needed. Pull back a corner of the stencil to see if you got everything you wanted.
Remove stencil immediately, don’t let paint dry on stencil. All stencils are reuseable. Wash with water. Use soap and sponge if needed. Lay flat to dry with mesh sticky side up or pat dry to reuse right away.
Let surface dry completely before next step. Again, you can use a hairdryer to speed up process.
Cut Alphabet stencil in half, two sets of alphabet. Set aside one set. Then cut out letters to spell “Some Bunny loves you”. Carefully take the backs off each letter stencil and center words on top and bottom of surface.
Using the Alphabet stencil, apply Peace and Joy ChalkArt (white) to each letter to spell “Some Bunny Loves You”. If you decide to cut rows out instead of individual letters make sure that each letter is dry before applying the next letter.
Let surface dry completely.
Cut a small piece of ribbon for the Bunny’s “bow” and tie it. Then use your hot glue gun to apply the bow to the Bunny’s neck.
